Projects & Programmes
Research leadership roles. Several of these are less about a single project than about building durable capacity — doctoral training, national centres, European networks.
Current
RESIST — Resilience and Security for Trustworthy AI Systems
Director · National centre funded by the Swedish Foundation for Strategic Research (SSF), SEK 60 million
A national centre for cyber-resilient AI, hosted by Linköping University with Lund University, Örebro University and RISE, and supported by industry partners. As society builds dependency on AI while security threats increase, the question of whether these systems can withstand attack and failure stops being optional. RESIST works on resilient AI architectures that degrade gracefully rather than break, with an extensive programme for evaluating and validating results with external stakeholders.
AI4X — Centre of Excellence
Director
One of Linköping University’s Centres of Excellence, investing in prominent research environments for long-term development, research quality and deeper collaboration.
WASP — Wallenberg AI, Autonomous Systems and Software Program
Co-director · previously Director of the WASP Graduate School
WASP is Sweden’s largest individual research investment in modern times. The Graduate School is the part I have been closest to: building doctoral training at a scale that changes what the country can do, rather than producing PhDs one at a time.
TrustLLM
Coordinator · EU Horizon project
Developing a trustworthy, open and sustainable large language model for European languages, including Swedish, in collaboration with partners in Germany, Iceland, Denmark, Norway and the Netherlands. The aim is a model that benefits citizens and industry — and whose openness makes the trustworthiness claims checkable.
CHASS
Director · National SSF research centre
Reasoning and Learning (ReaL) Lab
Founder and leader
My research group within AIICS at Linköping University. We combine learning, reasoning and interaction, and we demonstrate what we build in the real world — what practice reveals as missing is what guides the fundamental research.
Completed
TAILOR — European network of AI excellence centres
Coordinator, 2020–2024 · EU ICT-48 network
TAILOR built the capacity to provide the scientific foundations for trustworthy AI in Europe, connecting research excellence centres across the continent. Coordinated from Linköping University, it produced a strategic research roadmap for trustworthy AI and seeded much of the European network that the work continues through today.
WASP-ED
Program Director, 2021–2025 · Wallenberg Transformative Technologies Education Development Program
A national programme to make Swedish universities leading in AI education, coordinated from LiU and funded by the Marcus and Marianne Wallenberg Foundation. It built shared curricula and teaching capacity across Swedish higher education.
